About the WiGLE Map

This web site allows you to plot WiGLE data on Google Maps. WiGLE is a web site that consolidates location and information of wireless networks world-wide to a central database.

You enter your address search string in the Address box at the top of the page. Use the same search string that you would at Google Maps such as a US zipcode or address.

You can also refine your search via the other search options. The Lat/Long Variance option deserves a little more explanation. This option allows you to widen the search area for data from your initial address lat/long location. Start this off small, as there is a tremendous amount of data available and Google Maps starts to slow down the more data you try and display. You have been warned!

The map will mark each WiGLE location with:

Paynet location
Freenet location
WEP location
DHCP location
Unknown/None of the above location

Note that the above is the order the icons are assigned. So if a Paynet location is also WEP enabled the Paynet icon will be displayed.

Clicking on these markers will pop up a bubble containing information about the wireless network. The righthand side will list all the wireless networks in your search area and clicking on them will scroll to their location.
